White Named IU Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize the top performance in Hoosier Athletics by selecting an IU Athlete of the Week. For the week ending Jan. 21, junior forward D.J. White is the winner. This is the second honor for White and the men's basketball team this season.
White, who also was named Big Ten Player of the Week, led the Hoosiers to back-to-back wins last week over Iowa and Connecticut.
White claims Athlete of the Week accolades after averaging a team-high 22 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game while leading the Hoosiers to victories over Iowa and Connecticut last week.
He opened the week notching his second straight double-double and tied career highs with 23 points and 12 rebounds against the Hawkeyes. He shot 10-of-13 from the field (.769) and was 3-of-5 from the free throw line (.600).
In the team's 77-73 victory at UConn, White registered his fifth 20-plus point performance of the season, scoring 21 while adding three blocks and three rebounds. White currently leads the team with 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Kyle Jenkins
Jr. - Kent, Wash. - Thomas Jefferson
Jenkins' leap of 15.86 meters in the triple jump at the Indiana Team Classic not only won the event, but it ranks first in the country in the event this year. The leap was a personal best for Jenkins.
Women's Track
Stacey Clausing
Sr. - St. Mary's, Ohio - St. Mary's Memorial
Clausing had strong finishes in two events at the Indiana Team Classic. She was second in the 400-meter dash (55.34) and third in the 200-meter dash (24.32).
Men's Tennis
David Bubenicek
Sr. - Kromeriz, Czech Republic - Obchodni Academy
Bubenicek, who is ranked 48th in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), easily defeated Toledo's Jared Miller (6-1, 6-1) and Murray State's Fadi Zamjaoui (6-1, 6-2), playing at No. 1 singles. The Hoosiers defeated Toledo, 6-1, and Murray State, 7-0, over the weekend.

Alba Berdala
So. - Gerona, Spain - Ies Ausias March
Berdala led the Hoosiers to wins over Kansas (6-1) and Drake (6-1) this weekend playing in the No. 1 singles slot. She defeated Elizaveta Avdeeva of Kansas 6-4, 4-6, 6-0, and Zi Wang of Drake 6-1, 6-0 on the day. Berdala is currently ranked No. 86 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
Wrestling
Marc Bennett
Jr. - Martinsville, Ind. - Martinsville
Bennett was one of three Hoosiers to go 2-0 on the weekend, and improved his overall record on the season to 27-4, including an 11-0 mark in dual meets. Bennett clinched an IU victory over Purdue on Friday night by pinning Nick Skinner with just 23 seconds remaining in the third period. He also added an 8-6 decision over 15th-ranked John Dergo in Indiana's loss to Illinois on Sunday, Jan. 21.
Women's Swimming
Leila Vaziri
Sr. - Coral Springs, Fla. - Coral Springs
Vaziri won all four events she entered on Senior Day, as the No. 13 Hoosiers topped No. 24 Missouri, 166-121. Vaziri started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, helping the relay squad turn in an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:41.47, the third-best time in the event in school history. Vaziri followed that with a win in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.59, then took the 200-yard backstroke in a "B" cut time of 1:59.87, the ninth-fastest time in IU history. Swimming in her final home dual, Vaziri capped her Senior Day performance with a win in the 800-yard freestyle in 7:32.12.
Women's Diving
Lindsay Weigle
Sr. - Bloomington, Ind. - Bloomington South
Weigle swept the diving events, as No. 13 Indiana topped No. 24 Missouri on Senior Day, 166-121. Weigle took the three-meter with a score of 331.80, then won the platform with a score of 306.45, the fourth-best five-dive platform score in school history.

Jr. - Shelton, Wash. - Shelton
Penoyar won the 200-yard medley relay, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke for the third meet in a row, as the 15th-ranked Hoosiers topped Missouri on Saturday.
Men's Diving
David Legler
Jr. - Blue Springs, Mo. - Blue Springs
Legler turned in the 10th-best score in school history in the platform against Missouri, posting a career-best score of 367.28. The score was the best in the event on the day, although Legler was exhibitioned in the event. Legler also posted the third-best score in the three-meter (304.58), but was exhibitioned in that event, as well.

Thomas posted her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds in an 81-58 loss to Purdue. Thomas sank eight of her 16 shots, grabbed six defensive boards and registered a steal vs. the B
