Throughout the 2007 season, members of the Indiana water polo team will keep a diary of their travels for IUHOOSIERS.com. Seniors Jaclyn Tameris and Emily Schmitt checked in from the first trip of the year to the Michigan Kick-Off Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Today marked the start of the 2007 season. We started off the weekend with the bus ride up to Michigan yesterday. We had a lengthy debate about who was the best dancer on the team, and Maggie was unanimously chosen. We also had the pleasure of watching a nice long educational documentary on Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock. Needless to say, it really got us pumped up for the weekend. We rolled in at 10 p.m. after a "short" seven-hour bus ride and hit the sack.
We woke up this morning for our first game against UC Santa Cruz. Everyone was pumped and excited to start the season off right. Once we got to the pool, (head coach) Barry (King) gave us a motivational talk to get us ready to go, we hopped in the water and did our pre-game warm-up, then it was game time.
Our team came out strong and ended up beating the Banana Slugs, 16-3. It was a great way to start off the season and to get ready for the Michigan game that was to come later that night.
In the evening we played Michigan. We had a pre game meeting with extra excitement. While nervously sitting on folding chairs, listening to Barry, there was a sudden crash! The smallest girl on the team snapped her chair and way lying on top of the broken pieces. After a few laughs and our nerves settled, we were ready to play.
The game was set in typical Indiana vs. Michigan fashion, filled with fans, noise and the usual shenanigans. The game was a constant physical fight. We played hard, but came up short as the final seconds rolled off the clock. A hard-fought game is always a positive learning experience, especially at the start of the season.

After a late game, we had to wake up early this morning to face Colorado State. The whole team played hard and contributed to our victory. In a weekend with multiple games, we work on taking steps forward. If in previous games we fall short in certain areas, we try to improve on those things in the next matches.
We had one last game for the weekend. After a short break, we played Marist for another victorious match. Overall, it was a solid weekend to start off the season. We know what areas we need to improve on, yet feel confident in our work thus far. Our team is looking forward to next weekend's trip to Stanford.
You think you know, but you have no idea. This has been the Diary of Indiana Water Polo.
