From Jan. 2-6, midfielder Christie Kotynski of the women's soccer team participated with the Olympic Developmental Program's Region II Under-19 squad in interregional play in Ventura, Calif. The freshman kept a diary of her daily events from the West Coast, and IUHOOSIERS.com will publish her entries this week. The second entry is for Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Day 2: Finally, we got to play!
In the morning, we got to practice for a while, and then we had most of the time to just hang out, rest, and explore the beach. Of course, I wanted to see the beach and it was an adventure. I walked in the water, only to almost lose my sandals to the sea, and walked on this path of giant rocks that went through the water. It was awesome!
Later on, we had our game against Region I, and tied 0-0. For our first game together, we played okay. The most surprising thing of the night was how cold it was by the end of the game - we could see our breath!
After the game we went to a place called Soup-plantation for dinner and it was amazing - all you can eat salad, soup and pasta was perfect for me! Finally we got back to the hotel and, of course, all I wanted to do was sleep, and it was only 9:30!
