BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University volleyball team (12-7, 4-4) will host the Purdue Boilermakers (13-7, 5-3) tonight at University Gym. Tonight's contest marks the beginning of the 2007-08 AT&T Crimson and Gold Cup and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network, starting at 8 PM.
The Hoosiers enter Wednesday tied for fifth place in the Big Ten standings at 4-4, one game back from Purdue's 5-3 mark which is tied with Minnesota for third. The IU-Purdue match is the only Big Ten contest scheduled for tonight with the rest of the league playing over the weekend. The Hoosiers travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to take on the Wolverines on Friday night for their second match of the week while Purdue visits Michigan on Saturday.
AT&T CRIMSON AND GOLD CUP
The rivalry between IU and Purdue continues with the 2007-08 AT&T Crimson & Gold Cup. The overall winner of the contest will be awarded a trophy at the end of the season.
Each sport can earn one point toward the overall championship. A total of 21 points can be won. The winner of regular season head-to-head competition earns the point for its institution. Should the teams split or tie in regular season competition the point is split between the two institutions (i.e. if each team wins two games in baseball the point is split). If the two institutions do not compete in head-to-head regular season competition, the team that places higher at the Big Ten Championship will earn the point. Should they tie in conference championship competition the point will be split. In the sport of track & field three-way meets that are scored as dual meets do not count as head-to-head competition.

CROWD AMONG LARGEST IN NATION
A school-record crowd of 11,086 people witnessed Friday night's volleyball match between the Hoosiers and Michigan State. That crowd is the third largest crowd in the nation this season for a volleyball match according to the Wisconsin Athletic Communications office, which keeps an unofficial record of national volleyball attendance figures across the country.
The huge amount of people watching the volleyball match also increased IU's average attendance to 2,223 fans per home match, the ninth highest average in the NCAA.
LAST WEEKEND

In their fourth weekend of Big Ten action, the Indiana University volleyball team did just as they had the previous three conference weekends: split the weekend, one win and one loss. After suffering 3-0 loss to Michigan State Friday night, the IU volleyball team got back to winning with a 3-1 win over Northwestern.
Senior Juli Pierce led the way defensively with 25 digs (including her 1,000th career dig) and Senior Lauren Ditteon recorded her seventh double-double on the year.
COMEBACK KIDS
Don't make a mistake and count out this Hoosier squad at any point. Indiana is 4-0 in five-game matches thus far and has had to win both games four and five in all of those contests. In fact, the Cream and Crimson dug themselves an 0-2 deficit in two of those matches before rebounding by capturing the next three games for the 3-2 victory.
THE MILLENNIUM MARK
Senior Juli Pierce recorded her 1,000th career dig during the Hoosiers 3-1 win over Northwestern on Oct. 13. Her 18th dig of the night (25 total for the match) pushed her over the plateau.
She became the just the eighth player in IU history to record 1,000 digs. In fact, if she keeps her current pace this season, Pierce will surpass Cydryce Carter (1996-99) for third place on the all-time list in just three years donning the Cream and Crimson.
Senior Lauren Ditteon and Freshman Mara Hilgenberg will also soon crack the millennium mark themselves. Ditteon needs 44 kills to do so while Hilgenberg is within 190 assists of totaling 1,000 for her career.
DIG FOR THE CURE
Indiana will participate in "Dig for the Cure" on Oct. 26. in the fight against breast cancer. In addition to pledged amounts, all proceeds from t-shirt sales that day will go directly to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Wabash Valley Affiliate.
