BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Erica Short paced the Hoosiers with 27 kills while hitting .400 in Indiana's 3-1 victory over Ohio State Saturday night. The Orrville, Ohio native also contributed seven digs, two blocks and a pair of service aces in the win over the Buckeyes.
Short's 4.27 kills per game average are second to none in the Big Ten Conference, and her 5.24 points/game are the second highest rate in the league.
IUHoosiers.com chatted with Short recently for the latest edition of "10 Questions With ..."
1. What was it like to beat the Buckeyes Saturday night, especially being an Ohio native?
"It was great, it was a plus with me being from Ohio. All of our hard work paid off."
2. You sit atop the Big Ten in kills per game averages, what's been the key to your individual success thus far?
"For individual accomplishments, I never could have done it without my teammates, and they are there to back me up. No matter what accomplishments I get, I am thankful for them (teammates) and the coaches."
3. What are your expectations for this upcoming weekend at Illinois and at Wisconsin?
"We have a good opportunity this weekend. They are going to be two tough matches, but if we fight like we did against Ohio State and play to our potential then we will get some things done."
4. Why did you choose to come to IU?
"I loved the chemistry that the team had, and I loved the campus."
5. Where is your favorite place to go on the Bloomington campus and why?
"The arboretum, because you can go there and do your work. It is very pretty to look at."
6. What is your favorite part about playing for Coach Dunbar and the rest of the Hoosier coaching staff?
"She has so much energy and wants you to play hard at all times. No matter, whether your sick, having a bad day, she is always there for you and pushing you to your full potential."
7. What is your favorite part about the travel of IU volleyball?
"We get to eat all the time! The food is great."
8. In just over two weeks, the home match against Purdue will be broadcast by the Big Ten Network. What are your thoughts on playing in front of a national audience?
"It will be very exciting. I am excited to play and so is the rest of our team."
9. What song gets you pumped up to play and why?
"The new song by Britney Spears and T.I. called `Gimme More." We listened to it several times in the locker room before the matches."
10. If you had to live on a deserted island for a month, which three things would you bring with you and why?
"I would bring some food and a toothbrush. Eww, nasty teeth, we can't have that. Also, a friend because I need someone to talk to so I don't go crazy."
