The Hoosiers will also be hosting Illinois on Saturday at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana is coming off a 3-1 loss at #20 Michigan last Friday night. The Hoosiers built a wall that Michigan could not penetrate in game one, racking up seven blocks in the opening act alone. Junior Erica Short contributed three solo blocks in the game, and five solo blocks for the match which is the third most solo blocks in school history. The Wolverines came out on top in the end, however, eventually winning a tight game four.
PIERCE IS FIERCE
Senior libero Juli Pierce has been a force in the defensive backcourt recently, digging 79 balls during the last four matches for a 5.27 digs per game average. Included in that span was a 25-dig performance in the win over Northwestern in which she became just the eighth player in IU history to record 1,000 career digs.
BRING BACK THE MONON SPIKE
The Indiana University volleyball team improved to 13-7 overall and 5-4 in the Big Ten with a 3-1 win over Purdue Wednesday night to bring the Monon Spike back to Bloomington.
Kelsey Hall delivered a match-high 17 kills on the night, tying her career high while Juli Pierce recorded her second 20-dig performance in as many matches. Morgan Miller was inserted into the lineup with IU trailing in game three and was the key cog in Indiana's turnaround. She served tough and dug several balls to spark the Hoosier attack.
COMEBACK KIDS
Don't make a mistake and count out this Hoosier squad at any point. Indiana is 4-0 in five-game matches thus far and has had to win both games four and five in all of those contests. In fact, the Cream and Crimson dug themselves an 0-2 deficit in two of those matches before rebounding by capturing the next three games for the 3-2 victory.
THE MILLENNIUM MARK
Senior Juli Pierce recorded her 1,000th career dig during the Hoosiers 3-1 win over Northwestern on Oct. 13. Her 18th dig of the night (25 total for the match) pushed her over the plateau.
She became the just the eighth player in IU history to record 1,000 digs. In fact, if she keeps her current pace this season, Pierce will surpass Cydryce Carter (1996-99) for third place on the all-time list in just three years donning the Cream and Crimson. Her first two digs last Friday at MIchigan vaulted her into the top five all-time.
Senior Lauren Ditteon and Freshman Mara Hilgenberg will also soon crack the millennium mark themselves. Ditteon needs 24 kills to do so while Hilgenberg is within 25 assists of totaling 1,000 for her career.
BIG TEN RANKINGS
Entering this week, Indiana's 124 service aces are the second most in the Big Ten Conference and their 1.53 aces per game average ranks as the fourth best in the conference. Senior Juli Pierce leads the way at the service line, responsible for 32 aces thus far, the second most in the Big Ten. Other Hoosiers present in the Big Ten statistical rankings are Lauren Ditteon's 28 aces (5th), Erica Short's 4.28 kills per game (6th), Mara Hilgenberg's 12.04 assists/game (7th), Pierce's 4.11 digs/game (9th) and Ashley Benson's 1.23 blocks/game (9th).
