BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Day One of the 2007 Hoosier Classic women's tennis tournament is in the books and Indiana placed four student-athletes in the finals of a singles flight. It marks the second time in as many weekends that Senior Brianna Williams has reached the finals of her flight after being one of five Hoosiers that did so at the Deacon Classic.
Joining Williams, the lone senior on this year's squad, in singles flight finals are Alba Berdala, Sigrid Fischer and Stephanie Heller. Sophomore Lindsey Stuckey and Freshmen Charlotte Martin and Myriam Sopel also won their first round matches before taking a loss in the semifinals.
"I was pleased with our play," said Head Coach Lin Loring. "The level of competition is very good. In a few of our losses we played very well. I thought Lindsey (Stuckey) may have played the best match of her career in her loss to Vanderbilt."
"Brianna (Williams) and Sigrid (Fischer) are also starting to play much better tennis after a slow start this year."
