BLOOMINGTON, Ind - Sophomore back Kevin Alston is the Big Ten Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is the first Big Ten honor for Alston.
Alston was responsible for both goals as the No. 17 Hoosiers defeated previously unbeaten No. 24 Michigan State, 2-0 on Saturday night. The goals were the first of Alston's career.
The Hoosiers got on the board in the 39th minute thanks to a solid solo effort from Alston. Holding the ball, Alston played with the Michigan State defenders before running past them and unleashing a shot from about 10 yards out for a 1-0 lead. Just eight minutes into the second half he was on the board again as the Hoosiers used a restart to net the score. Billy Weaver played the ball to Alston who was running in down the left side, and Alston placed his shot at the back far post.
In addition to the Big Ten, College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer named the sophomore to its Teams of the Week. It is the second time this season a Hoosier has been honored by the Big Ten as Kevin Noschang was an offensive honoree on Sept. 3.
Indiana (7-3-1) is back in action as it travels to Louisville Wednesday night to face the Cardinals. Match time is 7 p.m.
