BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Kelsey Hall, a transfer from UCLA, has made an immediate impact on the Hoosier volleyball team this season. The Murrieta, California native has played in 95 of IU's 103 games and started nearly every match.
Hall is a versatile outside hitter that rarely leaves the court, excelling in the back row as well. She does a little bit of everything, averaging 2.57 kills per game, 2.71 digs/game along with 56 total blocks, 27 assists and 28 aces off the jump serve.
IUHoosiers.com recently sat down with the team's lone member of the sophomore class to ask a few questions ...
How do you feel about the opportunity to play in front of a national audience (Big Ten Network) on Wednesday night versus Purdue?
"I am really excited for the opportunity to play against Purdue on national television, it gives the sport of volleyball great exposure."
Why did you choose to come to IU?
"I chose to come to IU because of the great tradition in sports and academics. It has given me the chance to excel in all aspects of my life. I also wanted to experience four-season weather."
What is your favorite part about the travel of IU volleyball
"We have our own planes so we do not have to go through a whole bunch of security, allowing us to get to our destinations fast. We spend quality time together and usually learn more about each other, so it is always an adventure."
What did the team learn from this past weekend that can be taken and used to succeed the rest of the season in the push for an NCAA berth?
"That we need to always keep fighting because you are never out of the hunt for an NCAA berth."
What song is played most on your iPod and why?
"'Low' by T-pain because it gets me pumped for our matches."
If you could switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be and why?
"Michael Jordan because he accomplished many goals that were amazing. He was not only a great basketball player, but also a great person."
What is your favorite part about playing for Coach Dunbar and the rest of the Hoosier coaching staff?
"The intensity and willingness to keep fighting and always getting better is one of my favorite parts about the coaching staff. They also give us great opportunities everyday by letting us be a part of rebuilding the IU volleyball program."
Why do you wear the number 21?"
"I have always been the number 21 since I was about 14 years old and I never thought about changing. When I went to UCLA it was the first time I had a different number and it obviously did not work out. Now I am at Indiana and loving my number more than ever."
How has the adjustment of moving from California to Indiana gone for you?
"At first I didn't know what to expect because all I saw were corn fields. But then I realized what a great college town Bloomington is and I am stoked to be here."
