BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's soccer program will be well represented in Sunday's MLS Cup as the New England Revolution face the defending MLS Champion Houston Dynamo on Sunday at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. The game is a rematch of last year's MLS Cup where the Dynamo prevailed in penalty kicks.
Leading the Revolution is former three-time IU All-American Pat Noonan (1999-2002). In his fifth year at New England, Noonan has helped lead the team to three-straight MLS Cup appearances but is still searching for his first title. This year the forward has appeared in 27 games, tallying seven goals and four assists.
Over his five-year career Noonan has played in 119 games while scoring 37 goals and 29 assists. In 2004 he shared the MLS Budweiser Scoring Championship with MetroStars midfielder Amado Guevara, recording 11 goals and eight assists for a league-leading 30 points.
Last year Noonan was on the field for all 120 minutes of the Cup championship game against the Houston Dynamo. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw through regulation and extra time before the Dynamo prevailed, 4-3 on penalty kicks.
Facing off against Noonan on the other side of the field will be Houston Dynamo rookie John Michael Hayden. Hayden wrapped up his IU career in 2006, helping the Hoosiers capture their 11th Big Ten title and earning first-team All-Big Ten honors. He was also part of Indiana's National Championship teams in 2003 and 2004.
Fans can tune in to the MLS Cup live at noon on Sunday on ABC.
