IUHOOSIERS.com sat down Indiana's Student Development Department to do a Q&A session to get to know the staff. Intern Nathan Cheesman is first on the list.
Why did I choose to work for IU athletics?
I decided to apply to work in athletics here at IU because I had had friends that were varsity athletes in college, but I never got the chance to work with student-athletes as a group.
What do I like most about my job?
The best thing about my job is getting to work directly with the student-athletes. Even though the job requires long hours at times, it is fun to work with the student-athletes and see them learn outside the classroom, and to hear about their successes on the field.
Sports participation:
In addition to intramurals and other fun teams, I played soccer in middle school and swam in high school.
Career aspirations:
My immediate career goals are to have a job next year that will put my degrees to use. In the long run, I would like to become an associate athletic director or a dean of students.
Free time activities:
Since I am also a graduate student, I do not have much free time, but when I do I like hanging out with my friends, watching our varsity teams compete, or watching television.
Last book I read/ last movie I saw:
Book: "Dreams from My Father" by Barack Obama; movie: "Transformers."
Favorite sports team:
Outside of IU athletics, my favorite sports team would be Miami University's Ice Hockey team, as I went to undergrad there and they are the #1 hockey team in the nation.
Best class I took in college:
Great Theorems of Mathematics
Artist that takes up most of my iPod:
Even though I don't listen to them that much: Dashboard Confessional
If I could live anywhere, it would be:
Italy
My first job:
Summer camp counselor
