IUHOOSIERS.com sat down Indiana's Student Development Department to do a Q&A session to get to know the staff. Intern Katie Rasmussen is first on the list.
Why did I choose to work for IU Athletics?
I chose to work for IU Athletics because it will provide me valuable experience in the field of Academic Advising for student-athletes. I wanted to work for a Division I university and IU has a great reputation and history of being successful. Working at IU is giving me a greater understanding of the world of collegiate athletics and is assisting me in developing my skills to be successful in supporting collegiate student-athletes in their academic and career goals.
What do I like most about my job?
I enjoy getting to know the student-athletes and finding new ways to assist them in their goals. I also enjoy hearing about their accomplishments, both on and off the field.
Career aspirations:
I would like to continue my career in Academic Advising. Eventually I hope to be the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services at a Division I university. Also, I have my master's degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology, so I would like to use my education to assist athletes with performance enhancement in some way in the future.
Sports participation: I participated in basketball, tennis, and cheerleading in high school.
Free time activities: I enjoy exercising/running, reading, cooking, playing with my dog, spending time with friends and family, and traveling.
Last book I read/last movie I saw: I recently saw "Perfect Stranger" and I read "The Guardian" by Nicholas Sparks.
Favorite sports team: Other than IU Athletics, I enjoy following the Washington State University Cougars! (Where I completed my undergraduate degree)
Best class I took in college: Introduction to Physiological Psychology.
Artist that takes up most of my iPod: George Strait
If I could live anywhere, it would be: If it wasn't half-way around the world, and so far from my family and friends, it would be Paris. Otherwise, northern California.
My first job: Barista for a coffee shop.
