BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Caitlin Cox, a recent signee, will join the Hoosier volleyball team for the 2008 season. She won the Class 4A Indiana state championship with New Castle High School during her senior season and was named the 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year.
The five-foot-two libero racked up 28 digs in a win over the second-ranked team en route to leading her school to it's first volleyball state championship. Cox, who spent most of the season as an outside hitter, totaled 164 kills and a whopping 571 digs. In addition, her superb physical skills are matched by, if not exceeded, by her extreme mental intensity. She is known for her constant intensity on the court and the ability to pass that fierceness onto to her teammates.
"She's exactly what this program needs," said assistant coach Sarah Gustin. "She's definitely someone we're going to look to, to bring that intensity."
The Star Press, an online news source for East Central Indiana, also named Cox the Player of the of Year for their All-Area team today. To read a feature written by The Star Press's Thomas St. Myer about Caitlin, click on the following link:
