BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - Indiana University junior midfielder Brad Ring was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-America second team, it was announced Saturday.
This is the second All-America honor for Ring as he was named to the College Soccer News All-America second team last week. He was also an NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region first team pick.
A unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection, Ring had a solid junior season with a team-best five goals and 16 points. It was Ring's goal against Penn State on Oct. 28 that gave Indiana its 12th Big Ten regular season title and he added a goal and two assists in a 4-0 win at Kentucky just three days later. For his efforts he was named to the College Soccer News and Soccer America Teams of the Week, as well as the Big Ten Player of the Week.
One of Ring's six assists came on the game-winning score against then-No. 1 UCLA in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. The following weekend he was named the defensive MVP of the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament at Notre Dame as Indiana captured the tournament title with wins over Northern Illinois and Rhode Island.
In the Big Ten Tournament semifinal match with Michigan State, Ring set up what would be the game-winning score by Neil Wilmarth that allowed the Hoosiers to advance to the title game for the second-straight season.
Ring started all 22 matches in 2007 and led the team with 60 shot attempts despite his role as a defensive midfielder.
