Loukas Named IU Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana diver Christina Loukas has been named the IU Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11. The award is selected weekly by the IUHOOSIERS.com staff.
Loukas had a record-setting weekend for the Hoosiers, playing a major role in leading Indiana to its first Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championship since 2003. The Riverwoods, Ill., native won all three diving events on the weekend, becoming just the second diver in school history to win the one-meter, three-meter and platform. Sara Hildebrand turned the trick in 2003. Loukas became just the fourth diver in Big Ten history to do so, joining Michigan's Mary Fishbach (1988) and Purdue's Carrie McCambridge (2004).
The Hoosier record book took quite a hit at Loukas' expense this weekend, as the junior erased the school record in the platform and three-meter and narrowly missed setting a new record in the one-meter.
The junior was named the Big Ten Diver of the Year and Diver of the Championships for the third time in her career. She became only the second diver in Big Ten history to earn Diver of the Year honors three times, joining Michigan State's Julie Farrell (1989-91), and the second to be named Diver of the Championships three times, joining Hildebrand (2000, 2002-03).
Several other Indiana student-athletes had standout weeks, as Jamie Braun (women's basketball), Stacey Clausing (women's track and field), Kiwan Lawson (men's track and field), Trevor Perry (wrestling), Cecile Perton (women's tennis) and Roderick Wilmont (men's basketball) were also in consideration for IU Athlete of the Week.
Jamie Braun 5-9 - G - Fr. - Marshfield, Wis. - Marshfield Braun led IU in two games last week, scoring 16 points at Wisconsin on Feb. 8 and 17 points at Minnesota on Feb. 11. She went 6-of-14 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers, and added six rebounds and a team-high five steals at Wisconsin on Thursday night. On Sunday afternoon, she netted 17 points vs. the Gophers, shooting 5-of-12 of the floor with two 3s. She also added five rebounds and two assists. On the week, Braun averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game. She shot 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from the floor, 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from downtown and hit a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Stacey Clausing Sr. - St. Mary's, Ohio - St. Mary's Memorial Clausing finished 18th in the 200-meter dash at the Tyson Invitational, running an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the event with a time of 23.90 to become just the third woman in IU history to run under 24 seconds in the event. Clausing also ran the 400-meter leg of the distance medley relay team, which finished sixth with a time of 11:44.21, the third-best time ever at Indiana. Clausing was also 11th in the 400m dash with a time of 54.75.
Kiwan Lawson Sr. - Columbus, Ohio - Marion-Franklin Lawson earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump with a leap of 7.75 meters. The jump placed him second at the Tyson Invitational. His leap was one of the top four overall jumps at the event.
Trevor Perry 174 - R-Fr. - Davison, Mich. - Davison Perry scored two crucial victories at 174 in helping the Hoosiers to a pair of wins over the weekend. In Friday's victory over Michigan, Perry scored a 10-4 decision over Jordan Sherrod to extend IU's lead to 18-9 in the match. He followed that up on Sunday by pinning 15th-ranked Nick Hayes of Northwestern in 22 seconds to clinch the dual-meet victory for IU. Perry has won his last seven matches and is now 6-0 in the Big Ten this season.
Cecile Perton Sr. - Briey, France Perton earned the lone singles victory as the Hoosiers competed in dual matches against No. 10 Duke and No. 7 North Carolina. Perton defeated Duke's Tory Zawacki, 7-6, 6-3. She also played two competitive doubles matches with sophomore Sigrid Fischer.
Roderick Wilmont 6-4 - G - Sr. - Miramar, Fla. - Miramar Wilmont scored a game-high 17 points and added six rebounds in 34 minutes as the Hoosiers earned a 65-61 win over Illinois on Feb. 10. Wilmont went 8-of-16 from the floor in the game. Wilmont has led the Hoosiers in scoring seven times this season, with the team posting a 6-1 record in those games. He has reached double figures 13 times this season (IU 10-3) and 29 times in his career. The senior guard is second on the team with 12.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season.
