Feb. 20, 2007
Throughout the spring of 2007, IUHOOSIERS.com will catch up with different members of the women's soccer team as they go through their spring season. The interview for Tuesday, Feb. 20, is with co-captain Katy Stewart.
What is your favorite memory from last season?
"The Michigan/Michigan State weekend wins - especially the Michigan game because it was so intense and we played with so much heart."
Which road trip do you enjoy making the most?
"Penn State, because we get to travel in the IU planes and we always stay in the same hotel, which is really nice. There is also a lot of cool stuff within walking distance of the hotel and the Starbucks is only a block away!"
If you could change one rule about collegiate soccer what would it be?
"Shin guards. I just don't like wearing them - maybe that's why I have bruises all over my shins."
Who has made the biggest strides during the off-season and during the spring season?
"Kathryn Zachman is doing really well, especially in conditioning. She is a really good athlete, and is ready to work."
What goes through your mind when the alarm clock sounds for early morning conditioning?
"What color of practice gear are we wearing today?"
What is your most difficult class this semester?
"F303, Intermediate Financial Investments."
What are your expectations for the 2007 season after surprising many in 2006?
"We matched up with Penn State, but didn't perform the way we wanted against our biggest rival, Purdue, or Illinois. Those two were disappointing matches because we could have won if the conditions were different. Consistency is extremely important for 2007, because winning the first five games doesn't mean much if you can't finish the season."
What does playing Big Ten soccer mean to you?
"The best thing about the Big Ten is that every team has a chance every year, and there are no `gimme' games. We will work hard in every game, and do what it takes to win."
What is the best part about being a student-athlete?
"Training table meals, big puffy red coats, and the chance to play soccer everyday with people that love it as much as I do!"
