Campillo Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University sophomore Jorge Campillo was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Thursday, Feb. 22. It was the fourth weekly honor of his career.
"It is an awesome honor for Jorge and quite an accomplishment for it to be his fourth Big Ten weekly honor as a sophomore," IU head coach Mike Mayer said. "He played outstanding golf in Mexico to win his second title, and I believe that he will challenge Jeff Overton's school record of eight tournament victories. He has a long way to go, but he has the ability to get there."
The Caceres, Spain, native tied for first at the GADO North Texas Classic with a 54-hole total of 214 (73-68-73) in the Hoosiers' first event of the spring season. His second-round 68 tied a season low for the sophomore. Prior to the win, Campillo had one individual medalist honor to his credit, the 2006 Boilermaker Invitational.
Campillo, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2006, earned the weekly award three times during his inaugural collegiate campaign. He was honored on Feb. 23, March 9 and April 11, 2006.
The Hoosiers will return to action on Sunday, March 18, when they host the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C., on the famed Pinehurst No. 8. The three-day event will conclude on Tuesday, March 20.
