BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team will begin its spring slate this weekend by hosting the IU Women's Soccer on Sunday, Feb. 25. The event will either be played in Mellencamp Pavilion or at Memorial Stadium, depending on the weather.
The Hoosiers will be joined by Kentucky, Indiana State and Dayton at the event, beginning with a contest against the Wildcats at 9:30 a.m. EST. IU faces the Sycamores at noon and the Flyers at 3:30 p.m. Indiana State will face Dayton at 10:30 a.m., and Kentucky faces Dayton at 1 p.m. and Indiana State at 2:30 p.m.
Kentucky won the SEC Tournament a year ago to earn a berth in the NCAAs, where it lost to Denver, 2-0. The Wildcats finished up the season with a 12-7-1 record. Indiana State finished 2006 with an 8-10 mark. The Hoosiers topped the Sycamores, 4-0, at the IPFW Soccer Classic in an exhibition match. Dayton went 8-7-3 a year ago, but returns all 11 starters from its fall squad.
In 2006, Indiana posted its best Big Ten finish since 1998, going 5-4-1 in conference and 9-7-4 overall. The Indoor Event is the first of five events that the Hoosiers will participate in this spring.
