RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The Indiana University women's golf team finished in 11th place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday, Feb. 25. The Hoosiers finished with a total of 927 (312-307-308) at the tournament, which was held at the Coco Beach Golf and Country Club.
"I think today went pretty well," Indiana head coach Clint Wallman said. "Again today we had great production from the bottom of the lineup, especially Lauren, and Laura played great after battling the flu like she did over the past three days. We can take two things out of this, one being that we saw a very strong regional field and we know what we have to do to advance to the post season. Secondly, statistically we will be able to see how we played in categories such as greens in regulation and with our short games and can make changes from there."
Freshman Laura Nochta led the Hoosiers with a 54-hole total of 228 (74-77-77) to tie for 33rd place. She was followed by junior Lauren Harling, who tied for 48th at 233 (85-74-74) and freshman Anita Gahir, who placed in a tie for 52nd with a three-round total of 235 (79-80-76). Freshman Kellye Belcher wrapped up the tournament in 55th place after carding a total of 236 (79-76-81) and junior Elaine Harris rounded out the IU lineup by finishing in a tie for 68th position with a 241 (80-80-81) for the event. Competing as an individual, sophomore Amber Lindgren shot a 247 (84-78-85) for the 54-hole event, finishing in a tie for 81st.
Auburn captured the team title with a total of 873 (292-284-297) and was followed by Georgia (302-290-286) and Oklahoma State (292-289-297), who wrapped up the event tied at 878. Host Purdue finished in fourth place with a total of 882 (296-287-299) and South Carolina rounded out the top five with after carding an 892 (294-295-303) for the tournament. Individually, Jenny Suh (70-76-71) of Alabama, Pernilla Lindberg (69-71-77) of Oklahoma State, Alina Lee (72-72-73), Mariana Macias (70-70-77) of Auburn and Valentine Derrey (67-74-76) of TCU shared medalist honors with a total of 217.
