BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana football program will host seven home games for the second straight season, the IU Department of Athletics announced today. The 2007 campaign will mark the fifth time in the 47-year history of Memorial Stadium that the Hoosiers have played seven home contests.
"Just like last season, we have seven games at `The Rock' and I know our fans will be ready. We need their support and look forward to getting back on the field as we begin our quest to play 13 and end the year at a bowl game," Indiana Head Football Coach Terry Hoeppner said.
Indiana will open the 2007 season at The Rock, as Indiana State visits Bloomington on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. IU holds a 2-0 edge in the all-time series against the Sycamores, earning a 33-3 win the last time the teams met in the Hoosiers' 2003 home opener.
IU then heads to Kalmazoo, Mich., to face the Western Michigan Broncos on Sept. 8. Indiana disposed of the Broncos by a 39-20 margin in last year's season opener at Memorial Stadium and holds a 3-0 advantage all-time against WMU.
In its final tune-up before the Big Ten campaign, Indiana hosts Akron in a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Hoosiers and Zips have never met.
The Hoosiers kick off conference play on Sept. 22 at home vs. Illinois before heading to Iowa City on Sept. 29 for a battle with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hoosiers also host Big Ten rivals Minnesota (Oct. 6), Penn State (Oct. 20- Homecoming) and Purdue (Nov. 17). Indiana travels to Michigan State (Oct. 13), Wisconsin (Oct. 27) and Northwestern (Nov. 10).
In its final non-conference game, the Hoosiers face Ball State for the second straight year. The teams will square off on Nov. 3 at The Rock. Last season, Indiana scored a 24-23 victory in Muncie to take a 3-0 lead in the all-time series.
