BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team kicked off its spring season by going undefeated and keeping all three of its foes scoreless on Sunday, Feb. 25, at Memorial Stadium. The Hoosiers topped Indiana State 2-0 and recorded scoreless ties with both Dayton and Kentucky in the day-long event.
The Hoosiers began the day with a contest against regional rival Kentucky at 9:30 a.m. Indiana battled the Wildcats back-and-forth, but neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in a 0-0 tie, as Stacey Van Boxmeer posted a shutout for the home squad.
In the second game of the day, IU got its offense on track as defender Jessica Boots dribbled through the defense and unleashed a shot that found its way to the back of the net in the first half. Indiana followed that with a goal from captain Lindsay McCarthy in the second half off a turnover to take a 2-0 lead that it would not relinquish.
Dayton squared off with the Hoosiers in the final game on Sunday. Though both teams were able to generate offense in the affair, neither was able to finish its chances, and the game finished in the second scoreless tie of the day for IU. Freshmen Liz Holby and Christie Kotynski split the time between the pipes.
The Hoosiers return to action on Saturday, March 31. IU will face Valparaiso at 1 p.m. EDT and Cincinnati at 5 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Ind.
