BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Jan. 28, sophomore men's golfer Drew Allenspach earned the honor, as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"There's no more deserving recipient of this award than Drew Allenspach," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "He embodies what a student-athlete should be in all aspects of his life."
A native of Sugar Land, Texas, Allenspach has been a mainstay in the Hoosier lineup since his arrival in Bloomington. Heading into the spring season, the sophomore is third on the IU team with a 76.83 scoring average on the year.
According to academic advisor Linda Tatum, Allenspach has done an excellent job of managing his academic career. "Drew is a really good student who goes out of his way to utilize the campus resources to his advantage academically," Tatum said. "Drew also does a nice job of discussing academic possibilities and being supportive of new recruits to his team."
