Hoosiers Add Nine Newcomers for 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team has added nine players for its 2007 recruiting class, head coach Mick Lyon announced on Thursday, Feb. 8. The Hoosiers have added four players from Indiana and five other players from all across the country.
The Hoosiers have added nine players for the 2007 season. They are; forwards Aleah DeGeneres (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield), Darby Hannon (Bloomington, Ind./North), Jocelyn Moses (Indianapolis/North Central) and Whitley Wynns (Indianapolis/North Central); midfielders Chloe McKay (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and Cameron Myers (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central); defenders Jessica Krichbaum (Granger, Ind./Penn) and Susan Swepston (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin); and goalkeeper Lauren Hollandsworth (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge).
"With the talent that's departing in six seniors and five starters from our 2006 team, I'm very happy to see an incredible amount of talent and athleticism in this class," Lyon said. "These players will complement our 16 returning players very nicely. The goal of this class will be to continue the progress made by our program last year as we continue to strive for a Big Ten championship."
DeGeneres makes the trek to Bloomington from Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colo. There she played four years of varsity soccer and was an all-state selection in 2006. She also was a key piece in the Chatfield squad that took home the state championship in 2004. DeGeneres has also played club soccer for Real Colorado since 1999 under the leadership of Lorne Donaldson. She led Real to a 14-0 record and a state championship in 2006.
Hannon will have a short trip to IU after setting North's single-season record for goals scored and being named all-conference in 2006. She was also named her team's MVP as a senior after missing all of her junior season due to injury. Additionally, as a freshman in 2003, Hannon was named North's rookie of the year. She earned three letters in soccer for North in her career, and also ran track and cross country for the Cougars. Hannon played her club soccer for Dynamo FC, where she teamed with Wynns to help the squad take home a league championship last fall.
Hollandsworth joins the IU community after serving as the keeper for Great Bridge High School for four years. In her three years as a starter, she helped Great Bridge finish in the top two in its district every season and was named second team all-district each year. As a junior, she recorded 12 shutouts, eight in her district, and was named her team's MVP. She also played seven years of club soccer for Chesapeake Select, the Virginia Rush and Beach FC. She helped her Beach squad to a pair of appearances in the state cup finals and two Virginia Club Champions League championships.
Krichbaum played four years of varsity soccer for Penn High School, where she led Penn to four Northern Indiana Conference championships. She was a four-year starter for Penn, where she earned four all-conference selections. In her final two seasons, she was named first team all-district and garnered all-state selections. In 2006, she was voted Outstanding Player of the Year in her district and was a high school all-region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She has played club soccer for Steve Dregits and the Junior Irish for the last nine years.
McKay comes to Bloomington after playing four years of varsity soccer for Suffield High School in Suffield, Conn. She was a four-time all-state selection and scored 109 goals and posted 89 assists in her career, breaking both the school and conference records. The 2006 Hartford Courant Player of the Year helped Suffield garner the 2005 and 2006 state championships, and was named the MVP of the championship game as a senior. She also played her club soccer for Dave Clarke and Connecticut United FC, which was ranked as high as eighth in the nation a year ago.
Moses joins the Hoosiers after playing four years at North Central High School. North Central was the state runner-up in 2006, when Moses scored 31 goals and added nine assists. She was a third team all-state selection and was named to the Indianapolis Star Super Team. She has played club soccer with the Indy Burn under head coach Warner Moses and was named the team's Female Player of the Year.
Myers played four years of varsity soccer for Hinsdale Central, where she was an all-conference, all-area and all-sectional selection in 2006 after scoring six goals and registering five assists. She was named a top 20 area prospect for 2007 by the Chicago Sun-Times. Myers has also played club soccer for Hinsdale Hurricanes Select and KUFC Premier, under head coach Dwayne Cruz. KUFC finished second in the U.S. Club National Cup in 2006.
Swepston served as a left back for Dublin High School, where she played four years of varsity soccer. As a freshman, she helped Dublin to the state championship, and in her sophomore and senior years, Dublin finished as the runner-up in Ohio. An honor roll student, she was selected a scholar athlete in the Ohio Capital Conference as a senior. Swepston also played for 10 years under Chris King with Ohio Premier, which she helped to the finals of the Orange Classic in 2006.
Wynns teamed with Moses to help North Central to regional and sectional championships in three of her four seasons. In her high school career, she was a four-time all-state selection, including a trip to the first team as a senior, and also was an academic all-state honoree. She will see other familiar faces on the squad, as she played with Hannon for Dynamo FC. Wynns, who also played basketball in high school, served as a team captain for Dynamo.
The Hoosiers will begin their spring season on Sunday, Feb. 25, when they host Kentucky, Indiana State and Dayton at Mellencamp Pavilion. The action kicks off when IU faces Kentucky at 9:30 a.m. EST.
