Harris Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana junior Elaine Harris was named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced on March 17. It was the first such honor of her career and she became the first Hoosier to be named a conference Golfer of the Week since Shannon Johnson earned the honor for the same week in 2006.
"Elaine had a great tournament in Las Vegas and helped the team do very well," IU head coach Clint Wallman said. "I am very happy for her. She is very deserving of this honor."
While in Las Vegas for the UNLV Spring Invitational from March 12-14, Harris helped the Hoosiers to a fourth-place finish in the event as she finished tied for 10th overall with a total of 214 (73-69-72). Harris' 3-under-par 69 in the second round was a career low for the San Francisco native and ties her for the third-lowest single round in IU history. She also helped the team to numerous program records during the tournament.
Indiana's first-round 3-under-par 285 was just one shot off of the program low, 284, which was set during the first round of the 1998 NCAA Championships. Its final score of 864 (285-285-294) shattered the previous program-low for a three-round tournament, 885, which had been set at the Lady Seahawk Invitational in 2003.
Harris and the Hoosiers will return to action on March 24, when they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate. The tournament will conclude on March 25.
