Campillo Earns Second Big Ten Honor Of The Season

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana University sophomore Jorge Campillo was named the Co-Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Thursday, March 22. It is his the second weekly honor of the season and the fifth of his career.
"Jorge continues to impress me and continues to impress the collegiate golfing community," IU head coach Mike Mayer said. "He is not only one of the best, if not the best, player in the Big Ten, he is also one of the best players in the country. I thought all of (former Hoosier) Jeff Overton's records would be safe for a long time, but now I'm beginning to wonder."
Campillo, the 20th-ranked player in the country, captured the individual title at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate with a 3-under-par total of 213 (73-67-73) on March 18-20. He also led the Hoosiers to a first-place finish at the event with a team total of 880 (297-293-290). It was the second consecutive title for both the Hoosiers and Campillo, who each shared first place at the GADO North Texas Classic to open the spring season on Feb. 18-19. The 67 turned in by the Caceres, Spain, native in the second round tied his career-low, which he set in the third round of the NCAA East Regional in 2006.
Campillo, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2006, earned the weekly award earlier this season following his medalist honor at the GADO North Texas Classic. This week, he shares it with Pariya Junhasavasdikul of Purdue.
The Hoosiers will return to action on Saturday, April 7, when they head to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Boilermaker Invitational. The event will conclude on Sunday, April 8.
