Throughout the 2007 spring practice season, IUHOOSIERS.com will bring you interviews with members of the Indiana football team. After IU's practice on Tuesday, March 27, IUHOOSIERS.com caught up with freshman punter/quarterback Chris Hagerup.
On how things are going in spring practice:
"It is going great. It is kind of what I expected. There are a lot more people here and it seems like a lot bigger deal given the transition coming straight out of high school. It's been a good way to get things started, being it's my first practice."
On the difference from high school football:
"Live snaps and live rushing are all at a faster pace. Everything is faster and everyone being stronger and bigger is the most noticeable difference from high school. Earlier today, I was punting really well when we were getting snaps and when the rush came, I thought I was going to get a block, and then reality came. It's in my head, but more and more reps with live rush will help a lot."
On why he wanted to come to school early:
"I wanted to get my game to the level where I can play next year. I also wanted to gain some knowledge on where I stand at the quarterback position."
On adjusting to life in college:
"Academically, it seems like my high school prepared me well for college, but with time management, it's on you and you don't have people telling you what to do everyday. That's the biggest change, but so far it has been a really easy transition given the high school I came from."
On his teammates:
"The guys on the team have really helped. I've gotten familiar and close with some of the guys and I ask a lot of questions, which helps because they know the answers."
On how he likes Bloomington:
"I love it in Bloomington. I'm from Milwaukee and right now it's probably in the 40s there and here we have it in the 80s and it's sunny with a breeze."
