BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team faces off with Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., on Sunday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers went 2-0 last week against a pair of Big Ten rivals, defeating No. 55 Iowa, 5-2, and No. 51 Minnesota, 4-3. Against the Golden Gophers, the Hoosiers dropped the doubles point before winning four singles matches for the win. Senior Alba Berdala at No. 1 singles and freshman Lindsey Stuckey at No. 5 each won in three sets to clinch the win.
THE WEEKEND AHEAD
Michigan State is 11-4 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten. Christine Bader has an 8-7 record at No. 1 singles and teams with Stephanie Kebler for a 9-4 record at No. 1 doubles.
HOOSIERS RANKED IN ITA POLL
The Hoosiers are ranked 33rd in the latest ITA FILA Collegiate Rankings of the season, released March 27. Indiana began the year ranked 43rd, and was ranked as high as No. 29 on Feb. 21. Indiana is one of seven Big Ten teams ranked in the poll. Northwestern, ranked No. 10, leads all Big Ten teams in the poll.
HOOSIERS UPSET RANKED OPPONENTS
Senior Laura McGaffigan became the latest Hoosier to upset a ranked opponent with a 6-4, 6-1 win over No. 60 Joelle Schwenk at No. 2 singles against Kentucky on Feb. 18.
Indiana's biggest win as a team came against No. 21 Kentucky. With the Hoosiers ranked 29th, the team took the doubles point, then won four of the six singles matches to clinch a 5-2 victory. McGaffigan, sophomore Sigrid Fischer, senior Cecile Perton and freshman Lindsey Stuckey all won in singles.
BERDALA EARNS INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
Sophomore Alba Berdala began the year ranked No. 86 nationally in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. It was the first time in her career that she was ranked. Berdala is 16-11 on the year in singles.
STELLAR SEASON
Senior Cecile Perton started the dual-match season with nine straight singles wins at No. 5. She is 18-10 on the year. Perton competes with Sigrid Fischer at No. 2 doubles. The duo won its first eight matches of the spring campaign, and is currently 12-3. Fischer and Perton are 17-7 on the season.
STUCKEY REACHES 20 WINS
Freshman Lindsey Stuckey became the first Hoosier to reach 20 wins this season with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Ida Malmberg of Minnesota on March 25. Her victory clinched the match win for Indiana.
