BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana takes on Michigan State on Saturday, March 31, at noon on the Varsity Tennis Courts.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana went 1-1 last weekend, falling to Minnesota, 5-2, on March 24, then defeating Iowa, 6-1, on March 25. During the weekend, Dara McLoughlin and Arnoud Roussel each had two singles victories. Roussel earned his 20th victory of the season last week.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Michigan State is 9-11 this spring, and 0-4 in the Big Ten. The Spartans are coming off a 7-0 loss to No. 5 Notre Dame. Nick Rinks is 12-6 at No. 1 singles, and teams with Adam Monich at No. 1 doubles.
HOOSIERS IN THE ITA RANKINGS
Indiana earned a ranking of No. 71 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Fila Collegiate Rankings, released on March 27. The Hoosiers have been ranked as high as No. 58 in the ITA rankings this season (Jan. 10).
RICHTER JOINS HOOSIERS FOR SPRING SEASON
Junior Thomas Richter, a transfer from Birmingham-Southern, has made an immediate impact after joining the Hoosiers for the spring season. He is currently ranked No. 103 in the latest ITA singles rankings, his first ranking of the year. Richter upset his first ranked opponent on March 11, defeating No. 27 Marek Sramek of South Alabama, 6-3, 6-1, and has played at No. 1 singles three times this season. He is 9-5 in singles and 10-4 in doubles this season with Dara McLoughlin.
BUBENICEK REACHES 20 WINS
Senior David Bubenicek became the first Indiana player to reach 20 wins this season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 110 Andy Juc of Furman, giving him 20 wins in three consecutive seasons. He is currently 21-10 on the year in singles and 16-6 in doubles. Bubenicek was ranked 48th in the first ITA singles rankings of the year.
ALSO AT 20 WINS
Senior Arnoud Roussel earned his 20th victory of the year against Iowa on March 25. Roussel is 32-15 for his Indiana career in singles.
MCLOUGHLIN STEPS UP
Junior Dara McLoughlin is 19-5 in doubles this season. He has teamed with both David Bubenicek (9-1) and Thomas Richter (10-4) this year. In singles, McLoughlin is 18-9 overall.
