Saint Louis Defeats Indiana, 1-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team dropped its first spring game to a collegiate opponent with a 1-0 loss to rival Saint Louis.
"It's springtime, and I'm waiting for things to bloom," head coach Mike Freitag said. "We're a young team. I like the potential, but it takes time for potential to be reached. The first half, I thought we were sloppy. Second half, I like what we did, we came out and put them under pressure. I thought we dominated the second half. On their goal, I thought we fell asleep a little bit. That's this game, you make one mistake and it can cost you. Hopefully you learn from it and move on."
The game's only goal was scored in the 50th minute by Jimmy Holmes off a header, which was fed by Andrew Reeder.
Indiana held an 11-6 advantage in shots with a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hoosiers best opportunity to score came in the 20th minute, as Eric Alexander stepped up to take a free kick following a foul. His shot careened off the right post.
After the Billikens scored early in the second half, Indiana made numerous advances toward the goal that were broken up. In the 65th minute, Darren Yeagle had a shot that was saved and Lee Hagedorn also had a good opportunity that resulted in a save two minutes later. All four of Saint Louis keeper Ross Kauffman's saves came in the second half.
The 71st minute saw Yeagle cross the ball to Billy Weaver, who was in front of the goal, but it was knocked back over the net by a Saint Louis defender. The resulting corner kick was kicked away. Kevin Noschang also made several runs at the goal.
The Hoosiers continued to press in the final minutes, but were unable to score.
In goal for Indiana, Chay Cain had one save on the night
Indiana continues its spring season on Friday, April 6, against Louisville.
