Werskey Reaches Regional Qualifying Mark at Stanford Invitational

PALO, ALTO, Calif. - Freshman Eric Werskey posted a regional qualifying mark in the shot put on the final day of competition at the 33rd Annual Stanford Invitational on Cobb Track at Angell Field on Saturday, March 31, in Palo Alto, Calif.
Werskey used a toss of 16.85 meters in the shot put to qualify for regional competition. He placed fifth in the event.
Junior Kyle Jenkins recorded the top place of the day as he finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 15.70 meters. Sophomore Jeff Coover also finished among the top five as he cleared 4.96 meters for fourth in the pole vault.
Senior Trey Warfield, junior Doug Dayhoff and sophomore Martin Stephen each competed in the 400-meter dash. Warfield led the way with a time of 48.90 for 15th. He was followed by Dayhoff (20th, 49.14) and Stephen (35th, 50.53).
The men's 4x100-meter relay team was also in action as IU finished fifth in 41.39, while the 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 3:13.20.
"We had a very good showing in our first time out," IU interim head men's track and field coach Wayne Pate said. "This meet was a very good opportunity for our team. We got a lot accomplished and are pleased with where things are headed for the outdoor season."
The Hoosiers will be back in action next weekend when they host the Indiana Relays at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on Friday-Saturday, April 6-7.
