BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's tennis team travels to Clemson, S.C., to compete against Clemson and South Alabama in the Clemson Invitational. The Hoosiers meet the Tigers at 3 p.m. on March 10, and take on the Jaguars at 9 a.m. on March 11.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana dropped a pair of matches last week, falling to No. 75 DePaul, 4-3, then opening the Big Ten campaign with a 6-1 loss to No. 2 Ohio State.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Clemson, ranked at No. 20 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), is 9-3 on the season. The Tigers downed then-No. 10 Florida State, 4-3, their last time out. The team is led in singles by No. 72 Clement Reix, who is the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week.
No. 18 South Alabama is 10-0 on the year, defeating then-No. 29 Texas Tech, 4-3, on March 3. The Jaguars have two players ranked in the ITA Rankings, led by No. 27 Marek Sramek. The team is led by Sramek and Robert Hodel in doubles. The duo is ranked 43rd by the ITA.
HOOSIERS IN ITA RANKINGS
In the seventh ITA rankings of the 2006-07 season, released on March 6, the Hoosiers are ranked at No. 75. Indiana began the dual-match season ranked 58th. The next rankings will be released on Tuesday, March 13.
BUBENICEK HONORED BY BIG TEN
Senior David Bubenicek was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 18 for his performance in Indiana's first matches of the spring campaign. He won his first two singles matches against Morehead State and IPFW, competing at No. 1. Bubenicek is currently 19-6 on the year in singles and 13-3 in doubles. Bubenicek was ranked at No. 48 in the first ITA singles rankings of the year.
MCLOUGHLIN STEPS UP
Junior Dara McLoughlin is 15-3 in doubles this season. He has teamed with both David Bubenicek (9-1) and Thomas Richter (6-2) this year. In singles, McLoughlin is 8-4 in the dual-match season and 14-7 overall.
RICHTER JOINS HOOSIERS FOR SPRING SEASON
Junior Thomas Richter, a transfer from Birmingham-Southern, has made an immediate impact after joining the Hoosiers for the spring season. Richter was ranked at No. 119 in April 2006 in the ITA singles rankings. He is 5-3 in singles and 5-3 in doubles this season with Dara McLoughlin.
