Hoosiers Earn Pair of Shutout Victories

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team remained undefeated in the 2007 spring season with a pair of shutout victories on Saturday, March 31, to improve to 3-0-2 on the campaign. The Hoosiers topped Valparaiso 2-0 and Cincinnati 3-0 in a pair of contests in Fort Wayne. IU is yet to allow a goal this spring.
The Hoosiers opened the day with a 2-0 victory over Valpo. Two rising sophomores did the scoring for IU, with Christie Kotynski putting home a header midway through the first half for her first goal of the spring. Then, in the closing seconds of the frame, Jessica Boots stepped up and put home a free kick to make the score 2-0 heading into the half for her second spring goal. Neither team scored in the second half as Stacey Van Boxmeer recorded the shutout in net.
In the second game of the day, the Hoosiers shut out the Bearcats 3-0. Senior Suzie Teixeira got the Hoosiers on the board off a corner with Boots providing the serve. Boots sent the ball to the goal mouth and Teixeira headed into the upper part of the net to give Indiana a 1-0 lead. The Hoosiers scored a pair of second-half goals, with sophomores Kristin Arnold and Kotynski providing all the offense the Hoosiers needed.
The Hoosier defense was strong again with Van Boxmeer in the net and the back four of Boots, Kelly Lawrence, Katy Stewart and Taylor Fallon. IU has outscored its opponents 7-0 this spring after allowing a record-low 15 goals in 2006 and earning the fourth seed at the Big Ten Tournament.
