Hoosiers Face Notre Dame At Indiana Soccer Showcase

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team travels to Indianapolis this weekend to face archrival Notre Dame at the Indiana Soccer Showcase at Kuntz Stadium on Saturday, April 14, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The two teams have played several tough games over the past two seasons. The Fighting Irish defeated Indiana, 5-4, in overtime at the adidas Classic in 2006. In 2005, Notre Dame knocked the Hoosiers out of the NCAA Championships in the second round with a 2-0 upset. During the regular season in 2005, Indiana won a 3-0 contest in Bloomington.
"They've had our number the past few games," head coach Mike Freitag said. "We like to play games like this against good teams and good players because it makes us better. We're looking forward to this being a competitive game."
Notre Dame is led by 2006 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy winner Joseph Lapira. He lit up the Hoosiers for four goals at the adidas Classic.
Indiana is 1-2 during the spring. Darren Yeagle scored Indiana's first goal of the spring on Friday, April 4, in Indiana's 1-0 victory over Louisville.
Tickets are $5 per person and are available at the gate. Fourteen men's and women's teams will be participating, including Butler, Ball State, IUPUI and Dayton. Youth players are also invited to participate in the Urban Soccer Development Clinic, conducted by IUPUI's men's coaching staff and players, at 11:30 a.m. For more information, including a full schedule of games and directions, please visit the Indy Parks and Recreation Web site here.
