URBANA, Ill. - The No. 33 Indiana women's tennis team downed Illinois, 5-2, on Saturday, April 14, in Urbana.
Indiana earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Sigrid Fischer and Cecile Perton defeated Shivani Dave and Alejandra Meza Cuadra, 8-3, at No. 2. Erin Clark and Brianna Williams won, 9-7, at No. 3 over Kristina Minor and Momei Qu to clinch the point.
The Hoosiers (16-5, 6-1 Big Ten) won four of the six singles matches, led by Laura McGaffigan, who defeated Qu, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2. Fischer downed Dave, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3, while Perton earned a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Meza Cuadra at No. 6. Lindsey Stuckey also won at No. 6 for Indiana, defeating Emily Wang, 6-3, 6-2.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday, April 15, when it takes on Purdue at noon. The winner will earn a point towards the Crimson and Gold Cup.
