Noschang Nets Two In 2-0 Defeat of Notre Dame

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Kevin Noschang netted two goals for Indiana as the Hoosiers defeated archrival Notre Dame, 2-0, on Saturday evening at Indianapolis' Kuntz Stadium.
Noschang's first goal came in the 61st minute, as Darren Yeagle crossed a ball from the right side into Noschang in the middle for the score.
He scored his second goal in the 82nd minute. Doug Reisinger sent a pass in the middle to Noschang. Although the goalkeeper got a hand on it, he failed to corral the ball, and Noschang shot into an open net.
"I'm very pleased," head coach Mike Freitag said. "I liked the effort tonight; we did a lot of things well. Coming out with the weather conditions what they were, I didn't know how much soccer was going to be played, but it turned out to be a pretty good soccer game."
Indiana outshot Notre Dame 15-6 in the contest, including a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hoosiers had several chances in the first half but failed to capitalize. John Mellencamp had two shots saved, while another hit the crossbar. Several players had shots go wide in the second half, including Brad Ring, Yeagle, and Eric Alexander.
Notre Dame's best chance to score came in the 18th minute of play, as Bright Dike's header in front of the goal went wide.
Joseph Lapria, the 2006 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy winner, was held to just one shot on the night after playing half of the game.
Indiana continues its spring season on Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m. against Cincinnati at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.
