As part of an ongoing series, IUHOOSIERS.com will take a look back at each week in Indiana athletics history. This week spotlights April 16-22.
April 17, 2005: Senior All-American Jeff Overton shot a 3-under par 69 on the final 18 to finish in second place at the 2005 Boilermaker
Invitational. Overton's three-round 5-under par 211 (68-74-69) was four
shots off the pace of medalist John Edin of Purdue (70-74-63-207).
April 18, 2004: Danah Ford won her first career individual title at
the Lady Boilermaker Invitational. Ford was the lone competitor in the
field to finish under par on the first day. Late in the round, she was
3-under and eight shots ahead, but bogeyed No. 15 and 16 to drop back
to 1-under. Later that week, the senior would earn another career
accomplishment, capping her career with a Big Ten championship.
April 21, 2003: John Jefferson and Danielle Carruthers were named Big Ten Men's and Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their
respective performances at the Mt. SAC Relays. Both Jefferson and
Carruthers turned in the nation's second-fastest times with Jefferson
running the 1500-meter in 3:41.53 and Carruthers winning the 100-meter
hurdles with a time of 13.04. This occasion marked the second time in
Hoosier history that a representative from both track squads received
the honor. The other time coming on March 31, when Hoosier All-American
long jumper Rose Richmond won the women's award, while defending
national runner-up triple jumper Aarik Wilson shared the men's laurel
with Ohio State's Dan Taylor.
April 22, 1988: Christy Brown ties the single-game record for walks in IU softball history when she was walked four times against the Iowa
Hawkeyes. Brown, who lettered for the Hoosiers from 1988-2001, finished
her Hoosier career with a 66-37 record and a 1.21 ERA. Pitching in
737.0 innings for the Cream and Crimson, Brown struck out 323 opposing
batters, while allowing only 181 to reach base on balls.
