Indiana Tops Minnesota At Big Ten Championship, 4-2

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The No. 25 Indiana women's tennis team won its first match of the Big Ten Championship, 4-2, over No. 60 Minnesota.
The Hoosiers (20-5) won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Sigrid Fischer and Cecile Perton defeated Ida Malmberg and Danielle Mousseau, 8-2, at No 2. Erin Clark and Brianna Williams downed Karina Chiarelli and Tijana Kiprivica, 8-1, at No. 3.
In singles, Fischer, Perton and Lindsey Stuckey all won their respective singles matches to clinch the victory for Indiana. Perton and Stuckey earned the first two points, winning in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Perton defeated Chirelli, 6-4, 6-2, while Stuckey earned a 6-3, 6-1, win over Mousseau.
Fischer wrapped up the scoring at No. 3, bouncing back from a first-set loss to defeat Malmberg, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
"This was a great college match, it was close the whole way," head coach Lin Loring said. "We are excited to be in the semifinals. Today continued a trend of someone different stepping up for us to win close matches. Sigrid won the deciding point for the first time this season.
"We play Michigan tomorrow, and we know it's going to be tough to beat that good of a team twice."
The second-seeded Hoosiers head to the semifinals to take on No. 3 seed Michigan at 3 p.m. EST, on Saturday, April 28. Indiana defeated Michigan, 5-2, in the final weekend of the regular season on April 22.
