As part of an ongoing series, IUHOOSIERS.com will take a look back at each week in Indiana athletics history. This week spotlights April 30-May 6.
April 30, 1995 - Indiana's women's tennis team downed Northwestern at the Big Ten Championship, 5-1, to take its ninth straight Big Ten title and 14th in the last 16 years.
April 30, 2006 - Offensive tackle Isaac Sowells and defensive end Victor Adeyanju each took the next steps in their respective NFL careers, as both former Hoosier standouts were selected in the 2006 NFL Draft. Sowells went to the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round (112th overall), while Adeyanju followed suit as the 113th overall pick to the St. Louis Rams.
May 3, 2001 - The NCAA announced the field for the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship, and IU learned that it had earned its third consecutive trip to the national tournament after a 14-8 season that saw the Hoosiers go 5-5 in the Big Ten and reach the second round of the league championship.
May 4, 1957 - Indiana's Albin Hayes threw just the fourth no-hitter in the Hoosiers' baseball history, but took the loss in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Ohio State. Hayes didn't allow a hit, but issued six walks and struck out four. Only one of the runs Hayes allowed was earned, but despite collecting six hits of its own, IU could not lift Hayes to the win.
May 4-5, 1996 - The Hoosiers' softball team took two of three from Northwestern to wrap up a 16-7 Big Ten regular season. Indiana finished the season in fourth place in the conference standings, and went to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.
