WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sophomore Seth Brandon tied for fourth place with a total of 148 (74-74) as the Indiana men's golf team tied for sixth place at the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday, April 7. The Hoosiers wrapped up the 36 holes of the event with a team total of 609 (308-301).
"Seth really had a fine tournament," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "Overall, it was a good performance from him. We put ourselves into position to have a good round today, but we just couldn't bring it home. There are some very tough holes on this golf course, and we didn't finish them well. We will have Santiago (Quirarte) back next week and that will help us. Now we just need to get ready for Ohio State."
Following Brandon was classmate Jorge Campillo, who tied for 22nd position with a total of 151 (76-75) for the tournament. Fellow sophomore Drew Allenspach finished in a tie for 31st place with a tournament total of 153 (78-75), while freshman Alex Martin shared 56th at 157 (80-77). Sophomore Brandon Pike rounded out the IU lineup by finishing 78th with a total of 167 (83-84).
Michigan State captured the team title with a total of 593 (301-292), while host Purdue (300-302) and Northwestern (308-294) shared second at 602. Auburn was fourth at 607 (311-296), Michigan finished fifth with a total of 608 (315-293) and Ohio State (316-293) shared sixth with the Hoosiers at 609. Ryan Brehm of Michigan State was the individual medalist with a total of 142 (72-70) for the tournament.
The Hoosiers will be in action next at the Kepler Intercolletiate, hosted by Ohio State. The tournament will begin on Saturday, April 14 and conclude on Sunday, April 15.
