BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's golf team has been selected to participate in the NCAA Women's Golf Championships, it was announced by the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee on April 30. The Hoosiers, for the first time in head coach Clint Wallman's tenure, will participate in the Central Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor on Thursday-Saturday, May 10-12. The University of Michigan will serve as the host of the regional.
Three regional tournaments will be conducted over three days. A total of 21 teams and three individuals were chosen for the Central Regional, and the top eight teams will advance to the NCAA Finals, which will be held on May 22-25 at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
"It's very exciting for the girls, and it is a great recognition for all the hard work that they have done this whole year," Wallman said. "Our first focus will be to get healthy and get through our finals. The last 10 days, with going to Ohio State and then on to Big Tens after that has been very tiring. Our first objective is to rest up, heal up as much as humanly possible and then start the preparation process toward the end of the week for Regionals."
This marks the first time during Wallman's three seasons in Bloomington that the Hoosiers have made an NCAA appearance. IU played its way into the NCAAs with a strong spring season. The injury-stricken Hoosiers finished in fifth place at the Big Ten Championship to wrap up a spring in which junior Elaine Harris set a new program standard for a three-round event in winning the Mountain View Collegiate. Additionally, the team shattered the team 54-hole record while finishing fourth at the UNLV Spring Invitational. IU had three top-five finishes as a team during the spring.
