BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana junior Jennilee Huddleston has earned a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday, May 10.
Huddleston, a marketing major, led the Hoosiers in several offensive categories this season, including batting average (.335), runs scored (27), hits (55), doubles (15), total bases (90) and on-base percentage (.394). She was also second on the team in RBIs (25) and walks (15) and was the only IU player to start all 55 games on the year.
The award is the first of its kind for the Peachtree City, Ga., native, who was an Academic All-Big Ten selection last season. Academic All-Big Ten selections for 2007 have not been announced yet.
To be selected to the all-district team, a player must be a starter or significant reserve and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20. Also, the student-athlete must have reached at least sophomore academic standing at her current institution.
"Jennilee has done tremendous things in the classroom and on the field while representing herself and the IU softball program," IU head coach Stacey Phillips said. "I am thrilled that she has been recognized for her hard work and look forward to honoring her with many other awards in the future of her career as a student-athlete."
