Allenspach Named First Team Academic All-District

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Rising junior Drew Allenspach, a member of the Indiana men's golf team, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V first team in the at-large category, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced on May 25. It is the first such honor of Allenspach's career.
Allenspach, who wrapped up the 2006-07 season third on the team with a scoring average of 76.03, played in all 12 of IU's tournaments during the season. He recorded seven top-25 finishes, including a tie for 10th at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Marcy 18-20. That finish helped the Hoosiers to the team title at the event. The Sugar Land, Texas, native has been in the lineup for all 25 events of his career, with 16 top-25 finishes and three top-10s. He is a business major with a concentration in accounting and finance.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing or higher and have a grade point average of at least 3.2. The at-large category consists of student-athletes from women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and wrestling.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
