COLUMBIA, Mo. - Indiana sophomore Blayne Burkholder cleared 5.06 meters to take third in the pole vault at the 2007 NCAA Mideast Regional, hosted by the University of Missouri at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium in Columbia on Friday, May 25. Burkholder's mark earns him a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on June 6-9.
"This has been a great experience for Blayne," IU assistant coach Jake Wiseman said. "He has found a really good rhythm and has been able to progress throughout the outdoor season. The trip to nationals will be a great experience for him as a sophomore."
IU's 4x100-meter relay team also qualified for Saturday's final. The men's team placed sixth overall with a time of 40.13.
Freshman Eric Werskey just missed qualifying for the national meet after he finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 53.80 meters for a new personal best.
The Hoosiers open tomorrow's action in the field with the shot put at 3 p.m. ET and the finals of the 4x100-meter relay at 5 p.m.
