BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Sherry Dunbar has announced the hiring of Amanda Timmers as the Director of Volleyball Operations. Timmers will join the Hoosier program on June 1.
"Amanda was the first person that I thought of when I knew that we would need to hire a director of operations," Dunbar said. "We have been extremely fortunate to have Dave (Reid) here through the transition, he has done an excellent job of keeping us all organized and helped us greatly, but he is ready to move on. Amanda fits all the criteria that I had for this position. She is young, has a ton of energy and a great work ethic. She has always been very interested in statistics and analyzing them, breaking down film, and she will also be great with the organization of travel and other parts of the job. She is excited about every part, and she will come in with that excitement and make the job the best that it can be."
Timmers, a 2007 graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in physical education and health with a concentration in teacher education, spent two seasons playing for Dunbar with the Cougars after transferring from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. While at the College of Charleston, Timmers was a three-time Southern Conference Player of the Week, a two-time second team All-Southern Conference honoree as well as the Most Valuable Player of the 2004 Southern Conference Tournament. A member of the Horizon League all-newcomer team in 2002 and the all-tournament team in 2003, Timmers brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge and experience to the IU program.
A trainer at Sports Acceleration of the Fox Valley, LLC, from June 2004 to May 2007, Timmers taught middle and high school volleyball players volleyball skills and implemented a plyometric/weight training program for them. She has also been a volleyball summer camp coach for a number of years and most recently participated in a clinical internship, student teaching students in grades K-5 at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School in Charleston.
Timmers will join assistant coaches Sarah Gustin and David Jack for the first season of Indiana volleyball under Dunbar, who took over the program in December. In four years as the head coach at the College of Charleston, she compiled an overall record of 113-22, won four Southern Conference regular season titles, three Southern Conference Tournament titles and took three trips to the NCAA Regionals.
