ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Members of the Indiana women's golf team will be checking in each day from the NCAA Central Regional, held at the University of Michigan Golf Course. Freshman Kellye Belcher shared her thoughts on the first day of the trip with IUHOOSIERS.com.
On how she prepared for the trip: "I just made sure that I packed last night so that I wouldn't have to rush today. I had a pretty good sleep, and then I went to the trainer to make sure that he cleared me to make sure that I was well enough to go. Then we all met up at Panera and got our food to get on the bus."
On having a bus drive the team to the tournament: "It was a shock! I knew that there had to be something up - I kept saying a bus all along. We all thought we were going to have to cram nine people into a Suburban. The bus is nice - it was comfortable."
On what the team is working on for the tournament: "What we have worked on the past week are sidehill putts, quick putts, lag putts. This course, the greens are really tricky, so we've been working a lot on that. We didn't really have that good of a tournament here last time and Lauren (Harling) has never seen the golf course. We're going to focus a lot on the greens."
On how her foot injury is doing: "My foot's well. We finally got some shoes that don't choke my Achilles area. It's a golf shoe that has a little strap on the back, and I can adjust it or take it off. Right now, my groin/hip area is killing me. I get this from time to time, especially walking in the mall, but it usually goes away in an hour. I got it on my right side at Michigan State when everything else happened, but it went away. All of the sudden, I was going to my exam the other day, and I wasn't walking fast, because I couldn't, and all of the sudden it started hurting and it hasn't gone away. I'm going to ice it up tonight and go see the trainer here tomorrow and go from there."
