BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's golfer Seth Brandon has continued where he left off at the end of his sophomore season this summer. The Dalton, Ga., native has turned in exceptional performances at a couple of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in the country and has plenty more ahead.
In his best finish of the summer, Brandon finished in 14th place at the Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown, Pa., where he also met golf legend Arnold Palmer (pictured to the right). The rising junior opened with a 71 before shooting a 69 - his low round at the event. Brandon closed with a 74 and 70 for a 284 total.
At the Southeastern Amateur in Columbus, Ga., Brandon carded a 19th-place finish. Propelled by a third-round 67, he finished at 288 (72-75-67-74).
Brandon posted a 71 at local qualifying for the U.S. Open in Cincinnati to advance to sectional qualifying. At the next stage in Columbus, Ohio, Brandon posted a respectable 145 on the heels of a 73 and 72.
He still plans to play at the Dogwood Amateur (Atlanta), the North/South Amateur (Pinehurst, N.C.), the Players Amateur (Blufton, S.C.) and the Western Amateur (Benton Harbor, Mich.) this summer.
Brandon sat second on the team in scoring, completing his sophomore year with a 75.86 average. His best finish came at the Boilermaker Invitational, where he tied for fourth place. That concluded his best three-tournament stretch of the season, starting with a tie for 10th place at the GADO North Texas Classic and a tie for 15th at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. Brandon concluded the season with a top 25 at the Big Ten Championships, sharing 24th place.
