BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior golfer Elaine Harris has been named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Central Region team, the organization announced. Harris led Indiana to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Regional on May 12 by shooting a 216 (72-75-69) to finish in a tie for seventh place.
"I think this is an outstanding honor for Elaine," Women's Golf Head Coach Clint Wallman said. "With the caliber of teams at the Regional, for her to finish seventh while shooting a 216 on a very tough golf course, it's a tremendous accomplishment. That shows that she has elevated herself to a big-time player level."
Harris wrapped up the tournament on Saturday by recording birdies on four of the final six holes, including both the 17th and 18th, to lead the Cream and Crimson. Her 69 marked the low round of the day for the tournament field and made her the first golfer in IU history to record three rounds of 69 or fewer in her career.
The San Francisco native was twice named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week this season, being so honored on both March 16 and March 29. She became the first Hoosier since Shannon Johnson a year ago to garner the award twice in a season.
On March 25, Harris captured her first individual title by shooting a seven-under-par 209 at the Mountain View Collegiate. That mark set a new school record for a three-round total and earned the junior National Women's Golfer of the Week accolades from Golfweek.
