BLOOMINGTON, IND. - Head coach Amy Robertson announced the 2007 field hockey schedule for the Hoosiers on Monday. The Hoosiers will have ten home contests at the brand new IU Field Hockey Field and will open the season with two games at the University of California-Berkeley.
"We have compiled an exciting and challenging 2007 schedule," Roberson said. "We believe it is the right mix that will provide highly competitive opportunities and encourage our growth as a program. We are thrilled that we will have the chance to play at home numerous times in our new beautiful, state of the art outdoor field hockey facility. Besides the Big Ten schedule we are competing against some great teams, including Wake Forest, Albany, Stanford, Louisville and several regional opponents."
The season begins with a scrimmage at Ball State on August 18 and is followed by a road trip to Cal. The Hoosiers will open the regular season against Pacific in Berkeley on August 25 and follow that up the next day against the Golden Bears.
The Hoosiers will return home for their next five games starting on August 31 against Albany. Two days later the Hoosiers welcome Saint Louis to their new field followed by Ball State on September 8.
Indiana will host their own tournament the weekend of September 14-16, when they take on Ohio University and Wake Forest on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The following weekend takes the Hoosiers back out on the road to Ohio State where they will take on the Buckeyes and Missouri State in Columbus, Ohio. Indiana will continue Big Ten play on September 30 with a trip to the University of Iowa.
The Hoosiers return home on October 5 to play host to Miami (OH) and Penn State on October 7. Indiana defeated Penn State last year, 1-0, for their first ever victory over the Nittany Lions. Big Ten play continues on October 12 as the Hoosiers will travel to the University of Michigan, looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Wolverines last season.
Indiana will play three of their final four games on their home turf, with the lone roadtrip being to Louisville to tangle with the Cardinals on October 25. The home contests include Michigan State (October 20), Stanford (October 22) and Northwestern (October 28) to close out the regular season.
The Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by Ohio State and takes place November 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
Last year, the Hoosiers went 14-5 overall and 4-2 in Big Ten play.
