Lawrence, England Move On to Finals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University sophomore defender Kelly Lawrence and her teammates on the Under-19 England Women's Soccer Team have advanced to the finals of the 2007 UEFA Under-19 Women's Championship. England won its semifinal match 3-0 over Norway on Thursday, July 26. England faces Germany in the championship on July 29.
The English squad shut down Norway behind two goals from Ellen White to move on to the finals. Elizabeth Edwards added a goal in the 78th minute to ice the victory. Germany moved into the finals with a 4-2, extra-time victory over France earlier in the day.
England took first place in Group B by defeating France 3-1 on July 20 and tying Poland 1-1 on July 18. France earned second place in Group B with a 2-1-0 record. In Group A, Germany took first place with a perfect 3-0-0 record, while Norway finished second at 2-1-0.
Lawrence started all 19 games she played in at defense in 2006, and returns as one of the top defenders in the Big Ten entering 2007. The Chigwell, Essex, England, native was a second team All-Big Ten selection and a unanimous choice on the conference's All-Freshman team. She also garnered All-Great Lakes region honors from both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Soccerbuzz.com and was named Freshman All-America by Soccer Buzz.
