BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University sophomore defender Kelly Lawrence of the women's soccer team has been named to the English squad for the Under-19 European Championships. Lawrence and her teammates will play three games in group B at the Championships, which run from July 13-30.
England will travel to Iceland for the international battle, with things getting started against Poland on Wednesday, July 18, at 4 p.m. local time (noon EDT). The squad will follow that match by facing France on Friday, July 20, at 4 p.m. England finishes its play in group B with a battle against Spain on Monday, July 23, also at 4 p.m.
Should Lawrence's team advance, it would move on to the semifinals on Thursday, July 26, at either 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. local. The finals follow on Sunday, July 29, at 4 p.m. The top two teams from both group A and group B will advance to the semifinals.
Lawrence started all 19 games she played in at defense in 2006, and returns as one of the top defenders in the Big Ten entering 2007. The Chigwell, Essex, England, native was a second team All-Big Ten selection and a unanimous choice on the conference's All-Freshman team. She also garnered All-Great Lakes region honors from both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Soccerbuzz.com and was named Freshman All-America by Soccer Buzz.
